MINDING THE GAP is a documentary about the turbulent lives of a group of young Illinois-based skateboarders.

Language

There is strong language throughout ('f**k') as well as milder terms such as 'bitch', 'asshole' and 'shit'. There is also use of the discriminatory term 'nigger', audible on a video viewed by people in the film.

Young people smoke marijuana.

Theme

There are several verbal references to domestic violence, which include young people recalling instances of abuse from their childhood. An audio recording is played of a domestic dispute and a young woman accuses her partner of beating her. He later admits he did.

Footage shows young people behaving dangerously by throwing fireworks and lighting them inside a car.
