MEN IN BLACK 3 is the third in the series of science fiction comedy action films about intergalactic secret agents working with aliens to keep the universe safe. In this instalment, Agent J travels back to 1969 to prevent the murder of the young Agent K by a vengeful alien. The film was classified 'PG' for mild language, innuendo and fantasy violence.

The film features a number of fantastical action sequences, including fights and chases involving alien and human characters. The fighting action is very similar to that in the previous 'Men in Black' films, with the two heroes wisecracking their way through the most dangerous or life-threatening scenes. The violence is fast-paced and cartoonish in style, with the main alien villain using darts shot from the legs of a spider-like creature to stop his opponents. By contrast, the heroes use large futuristic guns. There is little detail when the alien darts do make contact and any blasts from the heroes' guns simply reduce aliens to a slimy mess. The aliens are not particularly threatening or scary in appearance. The only realistic injury detail involving humans is limited to two very brief shots of blood on clothing but the action moves on quickly without placing any focus on these images. The film's overall treatment of violence accords with the terms of the BBFC's Guidelines at 'PG' which state 'Moderate violence, without detail, may be allowed, if justified by its context (for example, history, comedy or fantasy)'.

There are some examples of mild innuendo that are likely to go over the heads of younger children. For example, there is a reference to a race of aliens called the 'Viagrans' who have developed a 'revolutionary new pill'. However, there is no explanation of what is meant by this. There are also some undetailed references to 'conjugal visits' and comic sight of an alien flicking out an unfeasibly long tongue as he engages in a long kiss with a woman. The Guidelines at 'PG' state there may be 'Mild sex references and innuendo only'.

The film also contains a number of uses of mild bad language, including 'Jesus', 'hell', 'damn', 'morons', 'freaking', 'fricking', 'screw off', 'ass', 'shit', 'balls', 'pissed off' and 'bastard'. There is a reference to 'pimp-slapping' but with no sexual connotations. The BBFC's Guidelines at 'PG' state there may be 'Mild bad language only'.

The film also contains a single instance of innocuous wordplay on soft drug use and a scene in which discriminatory behaviour on the basis of race is displayed. However, this is firmly challenged and discrimination is not endorsed.
