Language

There is infrequent strong language ('f**k'), as well as some milder bad language (for example, 'bloody'), and unendorsed homophobic references (for example, 'poof', 'queer').

Sex

There are some moderate sex references. These include McKellen recalling his own involuntary sexual arousal as a child, and also relating how another man went to a cinema when he was young and where "The man next door to him put his hand on his cock".

There are also references to homophobia, including some negative historical references which are challenged and not condoned.

The film also contains some references to people dying.

McKellen recalls a disturbed woman entering his dressing room and self-harming.

There are also brief moments of mild violence, which are shown during film clips.
