MAZE RUNNER: THE SCORCH TRIALS is a science fiction film in which a group of young people must navigate a hostile environment in search of a safe haven.
- Threat
There are scenes in which a group of characters are faced with various threats, including an organisation which they must fight and escape from, gangs of people operating in a lawless environment, and infected zombie-like people who attack the characters.
- Violence
In some scenes there are exchanges of gun fire, mostly involving stun weapons, and the use of explosives. But other than people shuddering as they are stunned, there is little detail. There are some blows delivered as characters defend themselves, including heavy kicks and blows with makeshift weapons.
In one scene a man is questioned for information. He is punched and threatened, and his face is briefly seen with swelling and some blood.
Injury from encounters with the infected people is briefly seen.
It is implied that a character shoots and kills himself.
Bad language is mild, including 'damn', 'bastards', 'hell', 'ass' and 'shit'. There is also a middle finger gesture.
Precuts information
During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission

This work was originally seen for advice. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a 15 certificate but that their preferred 12A classification could be achieved by making some changes. The company was advised to reduce moments of threat and 'horror' involving zombie-like characters, and to reduce the focus on injury in a scene in which a man is beaten for information. When the film was formally submitted, changes had been made and, consequently, the film was passed 12A.
