THE MASTER is a drama set in the 1950s. It follows the tense relationship between Lancaster Dodd, the leader of a cult-like organisation, and Freddie Quell, an alcoholic war veteran who is admitted into Dodd's inner circle. It is rated 15 for strong language, one use of very strong language, strong sex and sex references.

There is frequent use of strong language ('f**') throughout the film and one use of very strong language ('c**t'). The single use of very strong language occurs during a psychological experiment in which some pornographic prose is read out. This includes the line "I felt his fingers opening the lips of my c**t". The use of the word occurs in the context of a crude sexual description and is not used aggressively or insultingly. This scene also features some further strong verbal sex references, which also occur elsewhere in the film.

There are some strong sex scenes, including sustained nudity and sexual thrusting. There are also a couple of scenes of strongly implied masturbation.

No-one younger than 15 may see a 15 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video or DVD.
