MAPS TO THE STARS is a drama about a Hollywood family thrown into turmoil by the reappearance of their estranged daughter.
There is a sex scene with a naked man seen between two women in bed. There is brief thrusting and continued kissing and fondling between the women after the man gets up. The man is seen masturbating while watching the women. Another sex scene shows two characters having sex in the back of a car, although both remain clothed.
There is a scene of strong violence when a person is repeatedly hit with a heavy statuette. Blood splatters up and there are shots of the victim with an increasingly bloodied face. There is also a scene in which a person is seen burning.
There are several verbal references to incest and sexual abuse and these form one of the film's main themes.
There are two uses of very strong language ('c**t'), with one of them being aggressive and accompanied by violence. Other language includes several uses of 'f**k' and 'motherf***er'.
The film contains references to drug abuse and characters are seen taking prescription drugs and offering GHB. In one scene, a dog is shot and killed, but we don't see this in detail.
