MADRAS CAFE is a Tamil language version of a Hindi drama with English subtitles, set against the backdrop of the Sri Lankan civil war, in which an Indian army intelligence officer uncovers a conspiracy. It is rated 15 for strong violence and injury detail.
This is a sombre drama and the violence is depicted realistically, with a strong emotional impact. In the opening scene people are forced off a bus and made to kneel in a field as they are massacred. Blood spurts are seen as several of them are shot in the back, and in a more distant image a little girl is shot too as she tries to run away. Several executions are shown, including a man tied to a post, his body juddering under fire with lots of blood as he is killed.
Other issues include mild bad language, including 'bloody' and 'bullshit', and a scene where a man and woman are shown kissing on a bed in a hotel room. It is implied that they go on to have sex, but this is not shown.
No-one younger than 15 may see a 15 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video or DVD.
