LAWLESS is a drama set in Prohibition-era Virginia in which a family of moonshine smugglers find themselves under growing pressure from a Special Agent. It was rated 18 for strong bloody violence.

There are a number of scenes of strong bloody violence, including sight of a man's throat being slit, sight of a man's head being punched with a knuckle-duster, and sight of people being shot. In one scene a man has boiling tar poured over his back and in another we are shown the aftermath of an act of torture during which a man's genitals have been cut off. Although the torture is not shown we see the victim's bloody crotch and another man holding a bloody razor. The severed genitals are subsequently seen in a jar. There is a sense of sadism in these sequences, as well as some dwelling on the infliction of pain and injuries.

The film also includes multiple uses of strong language, some of which are aggressive.

LAWLESS also contains brief full frontal nudity as a naked woman walks through a house at night.

No-one younger than 18 may see an 18 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger that 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video or DVD.
