THE LAST AIRBENDER is a fantasy adventure story adapted from an anime cartoon. The film is set in a fantasy land in which the inhabitants possess special 'bending' powers derived from the four elements of earth, air, water and fire. These powers allow them to utilise particular elements as weapons, for example by 'bending' fire or water towards other 'benders'. The story follows a young boy, Aang, who is the sole survivor of a race of monks who possess all four 'bending' abilities. The film has been classified 'PG' for moderate fantasy violence.

The film contains several battle scenes in which the various forces clash. In all fights we see examples of 'bending' of various descriptions, which lends the film a fantastical context. The violence is generally undetailed and very few injuries are visible. Beyond the 'bending', other more traditional weapons are occasionally employed. At one point we see a small dagger used to threaten, but the weapon is not used to inflict an injury. The film also contains several hand to hand combat sequences, but again these are undetailed and are unrealistic.

The battle sequences are occasionally quite intense, with some threat to the main characters. In one scene a fire 'bender' summons fire without using an ignition source, which frightens those watching. This scene is brief, but more intense than most other sequences.

The BBFC's Guidelines at 'PG' state that 'Moderate violence, without detail, may be allowed, if justified by its context (for example, history, comedy or fantasy)'.
