KILLZONE 3

KILLZONE 3 is a futuristic first-person shooter game for the PS3 console in which Special Operatives forces must defeat the armies of an evil organisation to prevent it from establishing world domination. The game was classified '18' for strong bloody violence and strong language.

The violence in the game is frequent with the player engaging hordes of enemies in various missions and being offered no other option than to kill them in order to progress through the game. The player is armed with an arsenal of firepower ranging from regular guns and rifles to more fantastical futuristic weapons. Impacts from these weapons cause extensive bloody injury but no greater damage such as dismemberment. Although the effect of being hit by a blast from one futuristic weapon sees the victim explode, this is not depicted in a graphically detailed manner. Because the player engages large numbers of enemies at any given time, the violence is generalised with no undue focus on individual injuries. There is, however, the occasional requirement to perform 'stealth' kills with knives in which enemies have their throats cut or are stabbed in the eye. There are also sequences in the game when enemy characters kill in cold blood, shooting other characters in the head without warning. The more personalised nature of such violence and the more graphic bloody injury that results exceeds what is permitted by the BBFC's Guidelines at '15' which state 'Violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable'.

The game also contains frequent strong language.
