KILL YOUR DARLINGS is a drama, based on real events, about the American poet Allen Ginsberg's time at college in the 1940s.

Language

There is use of strong language ('f**k'). There are also some uses of homophobic terms, including 'fruits' and 'queers', reflecting the prejudices of period in which the film is set.

Sex

There are a couple of sex scenes, one showing a woman performing oral sex on a man and the other showing two men having sex. Although there is some sight of thrusting and sexual mechanics, there is no strong or explicit detail.

Drugs

Drug taking is shown, including the use of marijuana, nitrous oxide, Benzedrine and heroin. The misuse of such drugs, as well as the consumption of alcohol, is shown to lead to reckless and dangerous behaviour.

Suicide

In one scene two characters experiment with hanging themselves in order to have a 'near death experience'. Although the characters survive, they are clearly frightened by their experience and it is also clear that it was not painless. In a later scene, a character who is caught in a desperate situation makes a more serious attempt at suicide by hanging.

Violence

A scene of stabbing shows some bloody detail, although there is little dwelling on the infliction of pain or injury.
