JERSEY BOYS is a US musical biopic which follows the lives and careers of pop quartet, The Four Seasons, as they leave the streets of New Jersey and begin the climb to the peak of pop stardom.

Language

Multiple uses of strong language ('f**k' and 'motherf***er'). Moderate and mild language includes use of 'shit', 'bullshit', 'son of a bitch', 'prick', 'asshole', ‘damn’, ‘screw', ‘dumbass’, ‘hell’, ‘numbnuts, ‘bullshit’, ‘Chrissakes’, ‘goddamn’, ‘Jesus’, ‘ass’, ‘pissing’, ‘crapping out’, ‘moron’ and ‘balls’.

Other issues include moderate sex references, including implied reference to a threesome and a man being left in a bedroom with a woman. The couple are only seen to kiss on screen but they are later given a round of applause and the man jokes 'you're right, it was more fun with another person'.

There are drugs references as a man is seen smoking what appears to be marijuana and we learn that a character has died from an overdose of pills. There is a clear aversive, anti-drugs message.

There are infrequent scenes of violence which are mostly mild in tone as a chair is broken in anger and men push and shove at each other during arguments. In one scene, a man appears to be shot in the head, with the impact hidden from view and a small amount of blood visible on his temple. However, this is immediately shown to have been faked in order to extort money.

There is occasional use of discriminatory language, none of which are endorsed. There are references to 'monkey songs' and 'coloured bands' as well as comments that a man is a 'fruit', depicting the unacceptable prejudices of the era.
