JACK REACHER is a thriller based on the novel 'One Shot' by Lee Child. Tom Cruise stars as Jack Reacher, an ex-military policeman who sets out to investigate whether a man who has been arrested for a series of apparently random shootings is actually guilty of the crime. The film was originally rated 12A for cinema release after cuts were made to two scenes of violence. This version reinstates the cuts made for cinema release and is therefore rated 15 for strong violence and one use of strong language.
In the first of the reinstated scenes there is focus on a half-conscious woman being suffocated. In the second reinstated scene a man is killed with two vicious blows to the head with a rock.
The other scenes of moderate violence generally occur in the context of set-piece action fights between the hero and characters that are clearly defined as villains. Although some heavy blows are landed, including kicks, punches and elbow blows to many parts of the body, little is shown in terms of blood or injury detail. The emphasis is generally placed on the superior fighting skills of the hero. One sequence shows a man pressing his thumb deep into his assailant's eye but this is a defensive move and lacks clear detail. Another scene shows a head-butt, resulting in a very brief spurt of blood from the nose.
The single use of strong language ('f**k') is directed by a woman to her father but not in a particularly aggressive fashion.
JACK REACHER also contains moderate sex references, including women being referred to as 'whores' and 'sluts'. There are also some undetailed drug references, including a passing verbal reference to 'cooking crystal' and sight of a 'bong', which is not seen being used.
No-one younger than 15 may see a 15 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger than 15 may rent or buy a 15 rated video or DVD.
