IRON MAN 3 (2013)

IRON MAN THREE is the latest in the series of action adventure films starring Robert Downey Jr as the Marvel Comics superhero. In this instalment Tony Stark pledges to battle the threat posed to America by an international terrorist known as The Mandarin. However, he finds even more dangerous forces at work as he encounters an army of genetically modified super-warriors that he must fight without his powerful Iron Man technology. The film is rated 12 for moderate violence, threat and language.

There are some intense action scenes in which the heroes and villains do battle, delivering punches and blows and attacking each other with weapons. These scenes are similar in nature to those in other recent films featuring superhero characters, such as MARVEL AVENGERS ASSEMBLE. Although there are some strong blows and impacts there is little detail to the violence, which is highly stylised. Furthermore, the involvement of fantastical characters with special powers and abilities means that there are no realistic images of injury. The villains are powered by a substance that causes their features to glow. When the substance becomes unstable characters are seen to explode but without gory detail. Moments of more realistic violence and threat are very brief, and the film's intensity is broken up by comic interludes and joking banter between characters.

There is some moderate bad language, including uses of 'dick', 'wankers' and 'spazzed out'. The latter is not used as a direct term of discrimination but is used by a character to describe his own erratic behaviour. Milder bad language includes uses of 'crap', 'God', 'ass, 'hell', bloody', 'pissed off', 'pissed', 'son of a bitch', 'jerk', 'shit' and 'screw it'.

The film also contains infrequent mild sex references and innuendo.

No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
