THE INTERNATIONAL is a thriller in which an Interpol agent and US assistant District Attorney attempt to stop the illegal activities of a powerful international bank. The film was classified '15' in accordance with BBFC Guidelines, for strong bloody violence and strong language. During a long shoot-out, a policeman is shot. There is no detail of the bullet entering him, however, as he lies on the ground, there is some sight of blood flowing out of a neck wound as the main character tries to stem the blood flow. During this same sequence, in a struggle with an armed man, the main character digs his thumb into what is presumably a bullet wound in the opponent's body, causing some blood to flow out. These scenes were thought to be permissible at '15', where the Guidelines state that 'violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury'. There are eight uses of strong language within the film. At 15, the Guidelines state that 'there may be frequent use of strong language (eg 'fuck').
