INKHEART is a fantasy children's film set in a world where characters from books come to life. It has been classified 'PG' for moderate fantasy violence and scary scenes.

The film includes frequent threat to the main characters, including a young girl. However they are portrayed as resourceful and able to overcome the 'bad' forces. The threat comes from creatures, including some humans, that have transferred from the pages of a fantasy book. They appear fantastical and not based on the real world. The violence does not generally result in injury, although one flash back sequence does show a cut to a man's arm with a very small amount of blood briefly on view.

BBFC Guidelines for 'PG' state that 'Moderate violence without detail may be allowed, if justified by its setting (eg historic, comedy or fantasy)'.

The violence in INKHEART is undetailed and set firmly in a fantastical world. However very young children may be upset by the scale and intensity of some of the scenes, particularly the film's climax.

One of the 'baddies' in the film uses a knife. It is used to threaten only. The character who uses it is not glamorous and young viewers are very unlikely to identify with him. BBFC Guidelines at 'PG' state that there should be 'No glamorisation of realistic or easily accessible weapons'.

The film includes only very mild language such as 'damn' and 'jack-ass'.
