HOSTILES is a US western, set in 1892, in which an Army captain is ordered to escort a dying Native American chief back to his homeland.

Violence

Scenes of strong violence include the massacre of a family, including two young daughters and an infant. There are several shoot-outs, with bullet impacts resulting in large sprays of blood. Moments of moderate violence include undetailed beatings, fistfights, and masked stabbings.

Language

There is strong language ('f**k'), alongside milder terms including 'damn', 'bastards', 'bitch', 'hell', 'son of a bitch', 'shit' and 'goddamn'. There is also the occasional use of slurs against Native American characters, such as 'red skin' or 'savage', but discriminatory attitudes are not condoned by the work as a whole.

Other issues include moments of bloody injury detail, notably a gunshot wound to a man's head and another man found lynched in a tree. It is implied that a group of kidnapped women have suffered sexual violence at the hands of their captors, but this is not depicted on screen.
