HOLY MOTORS is a French film with English subtitles. It follows the progress of Monsieur Oscar, a mysterious actor-like character who spends a day moving from one role to the next, apparently traversing through a number of different lives and taking in a range of human experiences. It was rated 18 for strong nudity.

The strongest example of nudity occurs during a sequence in which a man removes his trousers, revealing an erect penis. Although no direct sexual activity takes place, there is an element of sexual tension between him and the fully-clothed woman sitting near him. The woman sings to him as he lies next to her and rests his head in her lap. The erect penis is very clearly shown and is on screen for a sustained period of time. This focus on strong detail of nudity is more appropriately placed at '18'. There are other sequences which feature nudity, including sight of genitalia, but these occur in a much less obviously sexualised context.

There is a strong scene of sexual activity. However, it features no nudity because it involves two actors in catsuits who are being filmed in order to provide motion capture footage for an animated special effects sequence. They move as if engaged in sexual intercourse, in a variety of positions, at times licking and kissing each other, but are fully clothed throughout.

There are several sequences featuring strong, bloody violence, including a finger being bitten off and some large gushes of blood as a man is stabbed in the neck. Another scene features some blood as the bodies of people who have jumped or fallen from a height are shown lying face down on the pavement.

The film also includes a single use of strong language and several uses of milder bad language.

No-one younger than 18 may see an 18 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger than 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video or DVD.
