BATTLE FOR THE PACIFIC - THE HISTORY CHANNEL is a first person perspective shoot-'em-up game, set in the Pacific battlefields of the Second World War.

The game was classified ‘15’ for frequent moderate battle violence represented by numerous shoot-outs with enemy forces that require the player to eliminate all opponents in order to clear areas and complete missions. Weapons used are of the period, including single-shot and automatic firepower as well as explosives, and cause bloody injury which, whilst not particularly realistic or detailed, occurs with sufficient frequency to give it – along with the gunfire exchanges in which the player must take an active part – an emphasis that challenges the BBFC’s Guidelines at ‘12’, which state that ‘Violence must not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood’. Consequently, and also taking into account the absence of any significant problem-solving or strategic elements in the game that might balance out the focus on the battle violence, the game was felt to be more appropriately placed at ‘15’.
