THE HANGOVER PART II is a comedy sequel about a group of friends who lose one of their number during a stag party the night before the groom's wedding in Thailand. It was classified '15' for very strong language, strong sex references, nudity & drug use.

The film contains multiple uses of strong language and two uses of very strong language. The first use of very strong language occurs when a man describes a woman the groom almost married. The second use takes the form of comic word play and occurs when a transsexual tells a man there's a good reason why Bangkok is not called 'Bang-c**t'. Neither use is aggressive or directed and neither use is accompanied by violence, threat, or any other aggravating factors, such as a gender or power imbalance. In this comic context, the two uses of very strong language are permissible at '15' where the BBFC's Guidelines state 'There may be frequent use of strong language (for example, 'fuck'). The strongest terms (for example, 'cunt') may be acceptable if justified by the context. Aggressive or repeated use of the strongest language is unlikely to be acceptable'.

The Guidelines at '15' state 'There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest verbal references are unlikely to be acceptable'. The film includes a number of jokes about characters having sex with one another. It also contains a scene in which a transsexual describes a sexual encounter with the groom, who does not remember the encounter and who is shocked that he has had sex with a transsexual. Although the scene features some graphic references to sexual activity, such as 'shooting my load', these are presented in a matter-of-fact and descriptive fashion rather than in an erotic manner. Their predominant effect is comic as the man gradually realises what he has done.

The Guidelines also state 'Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context, but without strong detail. There are no constraints on nudity in a non-sexual or educational context'. The film contains scenes showing fully naked transsexual nightclub performers, with their breasts and penises visible. There is also a scene in which a man touches an unidentified object and licks his finger, after which a monkey licks the object in question before tugging and hitting it. At this point, a man leaps up from beneath a pile of material, revealing that the object in question is in fact the man's comically small (prosthetic) penis. The scene is comic in nature rather than sexual.

The film also features some scenes of drug use. In one scene, a character snorts a line of cocaine, which causes him to collapse, apparently dead. However, he is later seen alive and claims that sometimes the heart stops and then starts again after taking cocaine. Although one character makes light of his heart failure, he is presented as a ridiculous and unbalanced individual whose conduct here and elsewhere is unlikely to encourage emulation or the belief that this is a harmless and temporary potential side-effect. The film also features other scenes of cocaine use, notably during a flashback to the events that have caused the men to wake up with no idea of what has happened. The Guidelines at '15' state 'Drug taking may be shown but the film as a whole must not promote or encourage drug misuse'. Although the drug use is presented flippantly, it is seen to have negative consequences, and the film as a whole does not promote or encourage such activities.

THE HANGOVER PART II also includes sight of a man cutting his finger off whilst playing with a large knife, as well as subsequent sight of his severed finger. It also features some discriminatory language, which is used by a negatively presented character, some comic scenes of violence as the men are beaten with a cane and a man is shot in the arm, and some verbal drug references alluding to the men having inadvertently ingested a mixture of drugs which have caused them to black out and lose their memories.
