HALLOWEEN II (1981)

HALLOWEEN II is a slasher / horror film that once again follows the murderous exploits of serial killer Michael Meyers. It was passed ‘18’ for very strong bloody violence.

The strongest moments of violence in the film include a man having his head cut off with a shard of glass and another man having his head repeatedly stomped on and crushed to an unrecognisable pulp. Furthermore, the film includes several very gruesome stabbings. The BBFC Guidelines at ‘15’ state that violence may be strong but should not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury. The strongest gory images are unlikely to be acceptable. Strong sadistic or sexualised violence is also unlikely to be acceptable. The gory imagery in this film is much too strong to be contained at anything other than at ‘18’. However, there is nothing in the film to challenge the adult category (i.e. to override the principle that adults should be free to choose their own entertainment). Although the majority of Meyers' victims are female, their murders are neither sexual nor sexualised (albeit one female victim is naked (no detail) when hacked to death in her bathroom). Meyers is merely a killing machine who slaughters each and every person he encounters. Moreover, all his victims are dispatched both quickly and efficiently, albeit with plenty of gore.
