THE GUILT TRIP is a US comedy about a son who takes his mother on a cross-country business trip, during which they attempt to resolve their personal problems. It is rated 12A for moderate sex references and one use of strong language.
There is a single use of strong language ('f**k'), which occurs during a row between the two main characters. However, the use is not personally directed. There is also some milder bad language, including uses of 'whore', 'shit', 'God', 'Christ' and 'Goddamn'.
There are some moderate verbal sex references, which are generally comic in nature. These include the mother's neurotic description of all hitchhikers as 'rapists' and a scene in which the pair listen to an audio recording of a piece of erotic fiction in the car. The recording includes a reference to a virgin "who had never experienced a man getting hard against her skin". The mother informs her son that the book is about an "hermaphrodite ... you know a boy and a girl, both parts!". During the end credits we hear extended versions of some of the in-car conversations, including an exchange about the 'facts of life' talk the mother gave to her son. This includes the son telling his mother "You can't undo the fact that you talked to me about penetrative sex at a young age".
No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
