GIRLFRIEND IN A COMA is a documentary about the current state of Italy's democracy and economy, focussing on the views of younger people, many of whom have left the country to improve their prospects. It is rated 12A for images of real violence.

CCTV and news footage is shown, depicting violent riots and demonstrations over several decades. One scene includes grainy CCTV footage of a man being shot to death in an Italian street. There is no clear sight of blood or injuries, although the moment is deliberately shocking. The film as a whole is educational and informative, and its focus on young people makes it of potential interest to an audience of 12 and above.

There is a single use of the word 'bastards', a rude hand gesture, and some sight of 'exotic' dancing taken from Italian television shows.

No-one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult. No-one younger than 12 may rent or buy a 12 rated video or DVD.
