GET ON UP is a biopic about the life and career of the American recording artist and singer James Brown.
There is a single portrayal of drug use when Brown is seen to add unidentified crystals to tobacco that has been placed on an unrolled cigarette paper. A little later he is seen smoking the cigarette.
There are two uses of strong language ('f**k'). The film also contains mild bad language, including use of 'ass', 'bullshit', 'screw' and 'son of a bitch'. There are some uses of the term 'nigger'.
There is a single scene of sex in which a fully clothed young couple are seen standing next to a chest of drawers in a bedroom. The man briefly thrusts into the woman.
Additional issues include portrayals of domestic abuse, infrequent moderate violence and several scenes of adult cigarette smoking.
