FUNNY PEOPLE is a comedy drama about a successful stand up comedian, who discovers that he has a terminal illness and less than a year to live. He befriends a struggling young comic and makes him his personal assistant. The film has been passed at '15' for strong language, sex and sex references.

Over 50 uses of strong language requires a minimum category of '15', as BBFC Guidelines at '12A' direct that 'Moderate language is allowed. The use of strong language (for example, ‘fuck’) must be infrequent'. Strong sex references are usually heard during the various amateur comedians' acts - or when they're discussing ideas for their show. These are often vulgar, but good natured, and not generally used in genuinely sexual situations. They consist of blokey banter, with a few references which specifically refer to sexual activity, such as comments about 'fingering' and sexually transmitted infections. BBFC Guidelines at '15' state, 'There may be strong verbal references to sexual behaviour, but the strongest references are unlikely to be acceptable unless justified by context'. None of the references in the feature were strong enough to be judged the strongest of sex references.

Strong sex is seen when a comedian takes home two ladies and ends up having sex with both of them, at different times. Breast nudity and some vigorous thrusting movements are seen, but the scenes are comedic, and this - plus the lack of any stronger sexual or nudity detail - meant the activity could be allowed at '15', where BBFC Guidelines direct 'Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail ... Nudity may be allowed in a sexual context but without strong detail'.

A passing and undetailed drug reference to a character taking acid is also heard at one point in the film.
