THE FRONT PAGE is a comedy, from 1931, about a reporter who sees an opportunity for a giant scoop when a convicted murderer, who is due to be executed, escapes from jail.

Suicide

A character is seen jumping from a window, but we do not see her land and there is no aftermath detail. Other characters observe that she is still alive and some make flippant comments.

Sex

There are references to a 'Peeping Tom', and a character jokes about wanting to 're-enact the crime'. There is a reference to a 'lothario' doctor treating women with electricity 'at a dollar a crack' and enraging their husbands. A character is referred to as a 'street walker'.

Discrimination

There is one use of the term 'pickaninny', and a character is referred to as "That dumb immigrant". There are also several uses of the term 'coloured'.

Other issues include references to execution by hanging, and a comic scene in which a character is accidentally and non-fatally shot in the stomach. This scene contains no graphic detail. Very mild bad language includes 'damn', 'hell', and one obscured use of 'son of a bitch'.
