EMPEROR is a US drama set in Japan in the aftermath of WW2. General Douglas MacArthur must decide whether or not Emperor Hirohito has a case to answer in respect of war crimes.

Language

There is a single use of strong language ('f**king'). Milder bad language includes the terms 'balls', 'bastards', 'goddammit', 'hell', 'piss', 'shit' and 'son of a bitch'.

Violence

There are scenes of moderate violence. In one scene it is inferred that a character commits suicide behind a frosted glass door. The figure places what appears to be a pistol against the side of his head. A gunshot is heard and blood splashes against the frosted glass. No injury detail is seen. In another scene an American officer starts a fight with three men in a bar. He is knocked to the ground and kicked several times. It is later observed that he has sustained some minor facial injuries. Finally, several soldiers and palace guards are shot in a battle scene. There is also sight of characters being struck in the face with rifle butts.

Smoking

Scenes of cigarette smoking reflect the 1940s period in which the film is set.
