EL NINO is a subtitled Spanish drama about a young man who becomes involved in drug-running between Morocco and Spain.

Language

Frequent strong language ('f**k'), as well as various uses of milder terms, such as 'bastard' and 'asshole'.

Disturbing images

There are a few grisly images, including sight of a couple of headless bodies hanging by their feet from a bridge, and policemen flicking through similar crime scene images later. The bloody neck wounds are clearly visible, but the images are not on screen for long. At one point, another man's headless body is seen on a path, with another gory neck wound and a lot of blood on his clothing.

Drugs

The film contains frequent references to drugs and characters are seen smoking marijuana. In one scene, a man surveys a huge field of growing marijuana and says, "This is paradise, man. How can they forbid something that is so beautiful?". Although the drug-smugglers are eventually caught and imprisoned, the activity is portrayed as quite exciting, with some thrilling boat chases.

Sex

There is one strong sex scene, with a bare breasted woman moving on top of a man. There is further sexualised nudity as the couple frolic naked on a beach.

The film also contains some moderate scenes of violence: a man is attacked with a hammer, the blows landing off-screen, and is later seen with a bloody bandaged hand; another man is attacked with an iron pipe and has bloody facial injuries. In a further scene, a helicopter is shot down by a distress flare and the occupants are seen trying to swim to safety.
