A DOG'S WAY HOME is a children's adventure drama in which a dog makes a cross-country journey to find her owner.

Threat

A dog overcomes a series of threats on her journey, including being run over, having fights with wild animals and narrowly avoiding an avalanche. There are scenes in which a dog is left chained without food or water, and also a scene in which a police officer threatens to put the animal down.

Theme

Upsetting scenes include ones in which a homeless man dies from cold weather, a scene in which a kitten and its mother is killed by hunters, and scenes in which a dog is separated from its animal family and human owners. The overall tone of the film is reassuring.

There is use of very mild bad language ('God', 'hell', 'freaking', 'screw up', 'butt', 'moron'). The dog's coat is bloody after a road accident. The film touches on themes of depression within the context of group therapy, although these are quite undetailed.
