DILLI 1984 is a Punjabi language drama in which an old Sikh woman recounts how her family and community suffered after the assassination of a Prime Minister in 1984.

There are scenes showing bloody killings, including a man being stabbed with a pick, characters being stabbed with swords, and a man being immolated after being attacked with swords. In one scene, a violent mob hold an infant above a cooking flame, eventually immolating him.

Women are threatened with sexual assault and there are verbal references to rape. In one scene, a woman is pinned to the floor by a man, although the rape is not shown.

There are Punjabi and English uses of moderate and mild bad language ('saali', 'saala', 'bastard', 'haramzaday').
