THE CLUB is a Chilean drama about a psychologist who is sent to provide counselling after a shocking incident at a retirement home for priests.
- Theme
Very strong verbal references to child sexual abuse occur throughout, although there are no visual depictions of the abuse. The references come from a man detailing how he was sexually abused by priests when he was a child. In one case, he shouts for several minutes outside the priests' house, including detail about the priests masturbating and ejaculating onto him and into his mouth, and how their semen tasted. Similar references are repeated later in the film. There is also a scene in which the man is shown having sex with a female prostitute, whom he asks to anally penetrate him in a re-enactment of some of the abuse he suffered.
Further issues include strong violence, including the suicide of a man who shoots himself in the head, and strong language, including 'f**k' and 'motherf**ker'.
