THE CIAMBRA is an Italian language drama in which a teenage boy from a Romany community in Calabria is drawn into petty crime to help his family make ends meet.

Language

There is frequent use of strong language ('f**k'). Milder terms include 'shit', 'piss', 'balls', 'asshole' and 'damn', in addition to uses of the rude 'middle finger' gesture.

Violence

A 14-year-old boy is taken to visit an adult sex worker who it performs oral sex on him. The scene includes brief sight of what are suggested to be the boy's flaccid genitals.

Occasional use of discriminatory terms includes 'gypsy' and 'black piece of shit'. Discriminatory language and behaviour are not condoned by the film as a whole. There is infrequent misuse of marijuana and scenes of underage drinking, and children - including very young children - are shown smoking cigarettes; however, the film does not endorse such behaviour. There is dimly lit sight of a bloody cut on a boy's forehead after he falls off his bike.
