CHRONICLE is a drama about three teenagers whose lives are changed suddenly when they acquire amazing powers from a mysterious source. The film was classified '12A' for moderate violence, threat, bloody moments and language.
In the early part of the film, the teenage characters use their newly acquired powers for fun and thrills, playing tricks on unsuspecting people. However, when one of the characters begins to use his powers in a malign and dangerous way, the tone of the film becomes darker and more threatening. There is some sight of bloody injury, notably during a sustained sequence in which two characters match their powers in combat. However, there is little focus on the detail of violence or on the sense of threat. The BBFC's Guidelines at '12A'/'12' state 'Moderate physical and psychological threat may be permitted, provided disturbing sequences are not frequent or sustained' and 'Moderate violence is allowed but should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context'.
The Guidelines at '12A'/'12' also state 'Moderate language is allowed'. The film contains uses of the terms 'bitch' and 'prick'.
The film also includes some milder bad language, including uses of 'God', 'Jesus Christ', 'hell', 'dammit', shit', 'son of a bitch', 'ass', 'asshole', 'douchebags', 'crap', 'screw off' and 'screwing around'. It also features some moderate sex references.

Precuts information
During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission
Note: The following text may contain spoilers
This work was originally seen for advice in an unfinished form. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a '15' certificate but that their preferred '12A' classification could be achieved by making some cuts and visual reductions. When the finished version of the film was submitted for formal classification, cuts had been made in two scenes. Cuts involved the removal of a violent act and subsequent discussion of this, with some bloody focus, reducing focus on bloody injuries, and reducing sight of a character being impaled. With these changes having been made when the film was formally submitted, it was passed at '12A'.
