CALL OF DUTY: WORLD AT WAR is a first-person shooter game for the XBox 360 console. It is the fifth in a series of games set during the Second World War. In this one, you play as a member of the United States US Marine Corp fighting against the Japanese Army in the Pacific and as a member of the Soviet Red Army on the Eastern Front. The game was classified '15' for strong violence. T

There is a lot of shooting as you take part in a series of battles, using a range of authentic historical weapons. Shooting enemies produces a large spurt of blood and with some weapons at close range there is dismemberment or decapitation. When this happens, there is not a lot of detail of the injury and it happens very quickly, without any element of torture or dwelling on the infliction of pain. It is possible to continue firing at dead enemies, but no further damage is inflicted. Sometimes you are instructed to use your bayonet in self defence to stab an enemy in the neck. This also produces a large spurt of blood, but again with no clear injury detail and it is only shown very briefly. The historical context and period detail is clear and helps to distance the player from the violence.

There is also some strong violence in some of the cut scenes, but again no clear detail is shown, and some strong language occurs throughout the game.
