THE BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW (1970)

THE BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW is a 1970 British horror thriller, set in the 17th century, telling the story of a village that is threatened by demonic possession. It was originally classified X for cinema release in 1970 (meaning no persons under 18 would be admitted to screenings). It was subsequently classified 18 for DVD release in 2003. This cinema re-release is also classified 18 for a scene of sexual violence and strong bloody horror.

One scene shows a ritual in which a captive young woman is due to be sacrificed. Before she is killed, she is raped by a young man. Although the scene does not contain a significant emphasis on nudity, nor any other strong erotic detail, it is nonetheless quite protracted. There is a focus on the woman's vulnerability as the spectators both incite and take pleasure in her ordeal.

There are also some moments of strong bloody horror, including sight of stabbings, dismemberment, and a patch of flesh being cut from a character, as part of a primitive surgical procedure.

The film also contains sexualised nudity.
