BEL AMI

BEL AMI is an adaptation of the Guy de Maupassant novel about a man in late 19th century Paris who rises to power by seducing several rich and powerful women. It was classified '15' for strong sex.

The BBFC's Guidelines at '15' state 'Sexual activity may be portrayed without strong detail'. The film includes three strong sex scenes. Two of the scenes show a man thrusting into a woman and feature both male and female nudity. The other scene shows little detail, mainly being played off the man's face. However, the scene is accompanied by dialogue and moaning which clearly indicate prolonged sexual activity. The scenes exceed the terms of the '12A'/'12' Guidelines which state 'Sexual activity may be briefly and discreetly portrayed', but are sufficiently lacking in detail to be allowable at '15'.

BEL AMI also contains two uses of strong language, brief sexualised nudity when women are shown with their breasts exposed in a brothel, brief sight of a dying man vomiting blood onto another man's sleeve, and smoking scenes that reflect the period in which the film is set.
