AWARAPAN is a Hindi thriller set in Hong Kong about a criminal's quest for redemption. The film was classified ‘15’ for its depiction of strong violence and hard drug use.

The BBFC guidelines at ‘12A’ state that ‘Violence should not dwell on detail. There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood’. In this film, there are several moments of strong violence revealing sight of gunshot impact or blood spurts, emphasising injury or blood. This is aggravated further by the fact that the hero figure in the story uses violence as way of resolving disputes.

There is also a scene of hard drug use in the film. The arch villain of the story snorts a line of cocaine from a table as he addresses the hero character. There is a certain degree of glamorisation in the way this depiction of hard drug use is shown, a portrayal that breaches the ‘12A’ Guideline that states ‘any misuse of drugs must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or instructional’.

AWARAPAN also contains mild language in English and Hindi (eg ‘shit’, ‘bitch’, ‘saali’).
