THE ATTACKS OF 26/11 is a Hindi language thriller based on the Mumbai terror attacks that occurred in 2008. A police commissioner narrates the story of armed terrorists infiltrating the city and killing a large number of innocent people, followed by his own interrogation of the sole surviving terrorist. It is rated 18 for strong bloody violence.
The film includes extended sequences of strong bloody violence as the terrorists shoot indiscriminately at men, women and children in a luxury hotel and in a train station. Within two long sequences in particular, there is extensive and graphic detail of multiple bullet impact shots causing blood spurts and gory injury to various innocent characters. The sequences are of a particularly unsettling nature as they are based on recent real-life events and portray the killing of women and children, and even a dog, in a brutal and sadistic manner. In one scene of mass murder, a terrorist shoots a woman in the back of her head with clear sight of both the gunshot impact and blood and gore spurting from her mouth. This is followed by sight of an infant crying over many murdered, bloody bodies lying on the ground. In another moment, a hotel concierge is shot dead with graphic sight of blood spraying from both sides of his head. These sequences of strong bloody violence have the effect of dwelling on the infliction of pain and injury.
The film also contains subtitled and unsubtitled Hindi uses of strong language, as well as milder bad language (eg 'bastard').
No-one younger than 18 may see an 18 rated film in the cinema. No-one younger that 18 may rent or buy an 18 rated video or DVD.
