BBFC insight:

AMERICAN HUSTLE is a comedy drama about a small-time con-man who is recruited by the FBI.

LANGUAGE
The film contains over fifty uses of strong language ('f**k'). There are also uses of milder terms, such as 'prick', 'bullshit' and 'whore'.

There is one sex scene, which focuses on faces only. Brief breast nudity is seen before the sex begins. Later, a man asks a woman for sex in a toilet cubicle and runs his hands up her thighs. However, she simply shoves him away. The strongest violence occurs when a Mafiosi character is seen shooting another man in the neck. Shots are fired and there is an impression of some blood. However, the scene is very dark, lacking in clear detail, and the action is brief. Other violence includes sight of a man hitting his boss on the head with a telephone. No clear impact is shown, although there is some blood on the man's face afterwards. The film contains some apparent drug taking, with one character sniffing something from his hand, and another character smoking what appears to be marijuana. However, the drug use is not remarked upon.
