AMER is a Belgian horror drama charting three key periods in the life of Ana, from childhood, to her teens, and as a young woman.

Strong gory violence occurs in a sequence in which a character's face is repeatedly cut with a razor, with significant focus on the victim's pain and distress. The blade is then held to their eye before their throat is cut, with sight of blood throughout.

In one scene a woman is attacked and held underwater in a bath as she struggles. There is also sight of a dead body with cuts to its wrists, implying the deceased took their own life.

A scene of strong sex with sight of vigorous thrusting is witnessed by a young girl, although there is no nudity and the characters engaging in sex are unaware of the girl's presence.

There is also some sexualised breast nudity as a character transformers into an adult.
