ACROSS THE UNIVERSE

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE is a musical romance set in 1960s Liverpool, Princeton University and New York City. The film is formed around the Beatles songs of Lennon and McCartney. It received a ‘12A’ classification for

Nudity is allowed at ‘12A’, but in a sexual context must be brief and discreet. In this work the nudity, which is discreet, is limited to breast nudity and the sight of bare buttocks.

There are three occasions in the film when we observe characters smoking what is probably marijuana. If that is indeed the case, the scenes offer no useful instructional detail and they neither glamorise nor promote the misuse of drugs. The BBFC Guidelines at ‘12A’ require that any misuse of drugs in a work must be infrequent and should not be glamorised or instructional. The film also contains several relatively innocuous verbal drugs references and a few surreal scenes, often in psychedelic colours, that are probably a reference to the drug culture of the 1960s. However, these scenes are acceptable at ‘12A’.

ACROSS THE UNIVERSE also contains mild violence, sex references and language.
