55 STEPS is a biographical drama in which a psychiatric patient enlists the help of a lawyer to help her campaign for more influence over the type of treatment she receives.

Distressing scenes include a psychiatric patient being dragged along a corridor and roughly deposited in a cell, where she is forcibly injected with antipsychotics. Soon after, she suffers a seizure and wets herself. The administering of drugs by force is referred to as "a form of chemical rape".
