BBFC Supports Safer Internet Day 2018

On Safer Internet Day the BBFC will promote its BBFCinsight information and new Rate-A-Trailer resources available on the CBBFC website for children.

Safer Internet Day 2018 will be celebrated globally on Tuesday 6 February with the slogan ‘Create, Connect and Share Respect: a better internet starts with you'.

On Safer Internet Day the BBFC will promote its BBFCinsight information and new Rate-A-Trailer resources available on the CBBFC website for children. Rate-A-Trailer aims to help children understand BBFC age ratings and Classification Guidelines, while child-friendly BBFCinsight on CBBFC lets children find out about classification issues in a film and choose content that is suitable for them.

Coordinated in the UK by the UK Safer Internet Centre, the celebration sees hundreds of organisations get involved to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people.

The day offers the opportunity to highlight positive uses of technology and to explore the role we all play in helping to create a better and safer online community. It calls upon young people, parents, carers, teachers, social workers, law enforcement, companies, policymakers, and wider, to join together in helping to create a better internet.

David Austin, Chief Executive, BBFC said: "Children are confident and inquisitive consumers of content online, be it films, TV programmes or music videos. Protecting and empowering them is at heart of the BBFC's work. We do this by giving children and their parents the tools they need to make informed, age-appropriate decisions about what they watch in the cinema, at home or online. We also work with Mobile Network Operators to ensure their filters keep children protected from online content accessed via mobile networks that we would age rate as only suitable for adults.

"The BBFC is delighted to support Safer Internet Day 2018. Seeing children working together to help make the internet a positive and safe place for them to watch, share, enjoy and create content is incredibly encouraging. We are also proud to be working alongside all the organisations taking part this year and who continue to work hard to ensure the internet is a positive and safe environment for children. We will champion Safer Internet Day by recommending children and their parents access our CBBFC website to see child-friendly BBFC insight, and reminding parents to download our free BBFC app, to ensure they have access to age ratings and BBFCinsight guidance for the films and video-on-demand content they want to watch online."

The content that BBFC is showcasing to help empower children and young people to have a safe and positive time online will help us have such a positive impact. About the BBFC

The BBFC is an independent, private, not-for-profit company which classifies films, video on all physical formats (DVD and Blu-ray Disc for example) and certain video games and trailers.  It also classifies, on a best practice voluntary basis, video content for distribution online and websites accessed via the UK's mobile networks.
