Date 28/10/2013

The BBFC is celebrating young film makers at the Clapperboard Awards Ceremony at The Lowry in Salford this evening.

Young people from Salford and Merseyside, who have made six short films exploring issues such as football hate crime, identity, community, sexuality and health, and on-line safety, will be in with the chance of winning a Clapperboard UK Award at the ceremony, to be hosted by Liverpool actor Jack McMullen (The Street, The Bill, Moving On, Waterloo Road ).

Film Production students and graduates from Salford and John Moores Universities, together with industry professionals including actors Ciaran Griffiths (Shameless) and Jessica Forrest (Hollyoaks), worked with some of the young film-makers to develop their own ideas in to the short films, which will all be shown on the night of the ceremony.

This year’s judges include award-winning writers Frank Cottrell-Boyce (24 Hour Party People, Millions), Nicola Shindler (Scott & Bailey, Last Tango In Halifax) Actors Stephen Graham (This is England, Broadwalk Empire) and Hannah Walters (This is England, Whitechapple) plus one of Clapperboard’s volunteers, Richard Outram.

Clapperboard UK’s film-making youth project is now in its ninth year working with young people across the North West.  The project is non-profit making and relies totally on funding and sponsorship.

David Cooke, Director, BBFC said: “This is the second year the BBFC has supported Clapperboard UK. As part of our own education work, we regularly speak to young people about film classification and supporting Clapperboard allows us to build on this and support the next generation of film makers, who continue to impress us with thoughtful and engaging films. We wish all the film makers the best of luck at the ceremony this evening and look forward to watching each of their films. ”

Clapperboard UK partners and sponsors include:  Salford City Council, Liverpool City Council, Granada Foundation, Panavision, Merseyside Police, Bermans Solicitors, Lime Pictures, Liverpool PCT via Community Foundation for Merseyside, Bill Elms Associates Ltd, Pinewood Studios, British Board of Film Classification, BBC, Red Production Company, T5 Event Media, Forward Culture, EventSinc, Liverpool Echo, Manchester Evening News/Salford Advertiser, Lime Bar, Brand Placement Agency, EFC and MCFC.
