The BBFC support Safer Internet Day - 11 February 2014

The BBFC will be using a range of media to celebrate online creativity and encourage responsibility in viewing films online, in support of this year's Safer Internet Day.

Date 07/01/2014

We're supporting Safer Internet Day (SID) 2014, which takes place on 11 February 2014. This years' SID theme is 'Let's create a better internet together'. The day offers the opportunity to focus on the creative things that children and young people are doing online, as well as the role and responsibility we all have in helping to create a better internet.

To support SID 2014, we want to help children and adults learn how they can choose films to watch on the internet safely and discuss how we help mobile operators decide what online content they put behind their parental controls on mobile phones.

We’ll be using the BBFC website, newsletters, podcast and twitter feed to tell young people and parents about how they can choose age appropriate films to stream or download, by understanding BBFC age ratings, checking the BBFCinsight for a film and by using parental controls.

For younger children we'll provide games on the CBBFC website, to help them understand why it’s important to check the age rating of a film before they watch it online and ask them to take part in our poll about how they watch films online.

We'll also create two short videos, one for parents focusing on BBFC age ratings for online video platforms and our work with mobile phone operators; and another for young people about how they can use BBFCinsight to help them choose films to watch online that are right for their age group and to see if there is anything in the film that they might not want to watch.
