Taking a look at Examiner reports for two unique David Lynch films

To coincide with the David Lynch film season running at the BFI Southbank this month, we’re sharing Film Examiner reports for two of Lynch’s earlier features – ‘Eraserhead’ and ‘Dune’.

It is interesting to see how the Examiners at the time balanced their understanding of the images and stories Lynch presented in his work with their analysis of the particular moments which they considered might have a strong impact on certain sections of  the cinema audience.

‘Eraserhead’ was classified X uncut in 1979, and was most recently given a 15 certificate for DVD in 2008. ‘Dune’ was cut for a PG certificate in 1984, and then given a 15 certificate uncut on video in 1986.
