Content Providers
If you wish to receive online certificates, you should join as soon as you can. Scheme members get online certificates included free of charge with new VRA submissions, and so considerable savings can be achieved. You then also have your online certificates available as aggregators need them.
Ready to join?
If you are a content provider and are ready to join, please submit the application form along with the completed content provider licence, with the relevant spaces completed.
Please supply us with a purchase order number and we will invoice you (remember that the membership year runs from June 1st to May 31st but if you join after June 1st you will simply be charged pro-rata). If you are not an existing BBFC customer, our accounts department may need to run a few checks with you before you can get started.
Please make sure you specify any additional brands for which you might be submitting, or those for which you retain rights and may require back catalogue classifications.
Once your BBFC.online membership is confirmed it will take a few days for it to go live. We will notify you when this has happened, and then offer training should you require it.
Aggregators
Because of the differing engineering issues, we will need to discuss with you how best to meet the scheme rules though your distribution channel.
If you are a Web (HTML) based service: A set of web tools is available allowing access to the relevant online classifications, consumer advice and point of sale information as you receive rights to retail a work. You will have been issued with a draft licence which can be adapted around your specific needs.
If you have a unique distribution platform: (either software or hardware), we will need to agree points specific to you that reflect the technical specifications of your distribution channel. We will draft these into your licence. You are free to join the Scheme before your licence is finalised – this will give you access to our technical support whilst you develop or augment your service
All member aggregators will also have BBFC extranet to directly access the information you need for works you have rights to retail.
During our negotiations, the BBFC.online team will make available those logos and technical items that will help you to design and test BBFC.online on your platform.
If you are already using our logos for non-online classified works (e.g. ‘cut and pasted’ from mail-order offerings) we will work with you on a migration strategy. Remember that you don’t have to have everything in place on the day that you join the Scheme
Aggregators not joining the Scheme
Aggregators not signing up to the scheme who use our symbols and consumer advice will be requested to desist and remove the branding. They are of course, welcome to join the Scheme. Should they continue to use our Branding without negotiating Scheme membership, we will commence brand protection enforcement.
Content Providers supplying to non-Member Aggregators
Although you are free to supply your content to the aggregators of your choice, it is a contractual requirement of the Scheme that if these aggregators are not members of the Scheme but still retail work with the Electronic Black Card attached, you must make it a contractual requirement that works with an age restricted classification are not normally supplied to those below the appropriate age. Stricter rules apply for R18 material.
Training and help
We will regularly be running introductory sessions and details of these will be posted on the bbfc.co.uk website.
