General Counsel (Part-Time)

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) is looking for a General Counsel to provide vital legal guidance across our unique and high-profile organisation, including our innovative subsidiary, BBFC Technology.

The BBFC is the UK's independent, not-for-profit authority on age ratings for films and digital content. Our core mission is to empower audiences, particularly parents, to make informed viewing choices and to champion the protection of children in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

BBFC Technology, our wholly-owned subsidiary, leverages our expertise to develop cutting-edge solutions like CLEARD, an AI compliance tool currently in pilot. We're driving commercial growth to further the BBFC’s core mission. This is an exciting time to join us as we're seeing the culmination of years of work transforming how content is regulated.

The Opportunity

This is a newly created, permanent position offering an exciting chance to provide expert legal advice and support across a broad spectrum of legal and regulatory matters. As our General Counsel, you will be an integral part of our team, engaging directly with strategic, high-level issues and building strong relationships with senior management, the Board, and the wider team. You will play a crucial role in navigating the legal landscape as we launch new classification products and services globally.

Key Details

  • Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 FTE (£42,000 - £54,000 pro rata)

  • Contract: Permanent, Part-time (0.6 FTE / 3 days a week)

  • Working Pattern: Hybrid (minimum 1 day per week in our Central London office)
