ORDET. - THE WORD is a 1955 black and white Danish film, based on a play, about the Borgen family and the various problems the family members face in love, religion and childbirth. The film was classified '12A' for references to childbirth.
There is a prolonged childbirth scene and although there is no onscreen detail, the woman is in pain for an extended period of time. In order to save her life, the doctor has to kill the baby. We do not see this, but the woman's husband tells his father 'It was a boy. He's lying in the tub, in four pieces'. The film is also somewhat dark tonally in places, particularly in the scenes featuring a man who has succumbed to religious mania and believes himself to be Jesus Christ.
The film also contains scenes of pipe and cigar smoking and very mild language ('damn'/'damned', 'blasted' and 'hell').
This work was passed with no cuts made.
